Michelle and Myke have been married for almost 2 years but wanted some photos to display in their home besides their actual wedding photographs. I have been friends with Michelle and Myke for 6 years and Michelle was a bridesmaid in my wedding! I love this couple so much and they were so, so easy to photograph. They didn’t question my odd location choice (the new Palladio outdoor mall, still under construction, in Folsom) and made each of my pose requests completely natural and their own.

Thanks guys! You rock!

Michelle and Jermaine win the award for “most well prepared” – their wedding isn’t until June of next year but they already have their photographer (moi) and their engagement sessions is DONE! Awesome, but I can tell that poor Michelle is already counting the days until she walks down the aisle. I guess that would be the only downside of being so well prepared- you get everything done and then just have to wait!

We decided to try a new location for their shoot. I attended a PPA seminar last week at the Hyatt Regency and while walking around with my friends noticed how beautiful the light was around 6pm coming through the buildings. I knew it would be perfect for a couple as gorgeous as these two.

I am going to be photographing their wedding on June 12th at Arden Hills County Club, but in the mean time, it was time for engagement photos! Both Gabi and Emanuel are fellow Mira Loma High School grads - Emanuel graduated the year before I did and I had no idea that I knew him until we met at the wedding consultation. Gabi works with my friend Logan, which is how they found me. Small world, huh? Love that!

It was a mild Sunday evening when we did their engagement photos in Old Sacramento. Clouds were just starting to move in, giving us beautiful, diffused light (photographers love that!) It was busy- people everywhere. We basically hit every niche – the river, the train tracks, old buildings, allyways, the murals under the tunnel, and even the dumpster area of The Firehouse! They were both SO NATURAL in front of the camera. At one point I was at a loss for words and just told Gabi, “….be FIERCE!’ and by golly, did she give me fierce!

Without further ado (and yes, I had to Google how to spell that)….

This is the exact bench where Emanuel gave Gabi her promise ring. That day, they carved their initials into the bench. They were still there! (M is for his nickname!)

Mindy and Tommy met while they were both attending University of the Pacific. Mindy is the bubbly cheerleader and Tommy was the frat boy baseball player (sorry Tommy, but I earned the right to call you that when you requested a photo in front of your frat house! :D ). These days, Mindy is a teacher and Tommy is a lawyer and they live happily in beautiful San Diego, which is also the location of their wedding that I have the honor of photographing in July.

The campus of UOP was basically photographer’s gold. Beautiful architecture, sprawling green lawns, mature trees, and turn of the century brick buildings. It really is quite different than what I normally see in the Sacramento area and for a couple of hours I felt like we had been transported back east.

I wanted to give a shout-out of my good friend Lauren for mentioning me when Mindy was on the hunt for her wedding photographer. Not only has she given me the opportunity to befriend an awesome, fun couple, but now I also get to visit San Diego for the first time! I’m totally excited!

The future Mr. & Mrs. Gray!
