I met Summer’s mum (they are Austrailian!) on a mommy board that I belong to with kiddos who were born in September 2008. Tam and Summer drove all the way from Walnut Creek for our session. Little Summer is a DOLL and I was super excited to shoot her! Tam baked a gorgeous cake for Summer to make a mess with. In case you have never heard of it, a “smashcake” session is simply a session where you capture a 1 year old in action as they dig into a cake! Fun, right?! Heck yeah!

Summer definitely did a good job of destroying the cake. She took a couple bites, but was more interested in sliding around in the frosting (because unlike my son, she walks!)

After we got Summer cleaned up, it was time for some cute tutu photos. Another mutual friend of ours, Astrid, made the gorgeous outfit. Yes, she MADE it! Summer was getting a little tired of posing for the camera, so off to the park we went! I have found that once kiddos are done posing and you still want more pics, just take them to a park and snap away! Some of my favorite shots of the day came about in this part of the session.

Before you indulge in some adorable photos (below) you MUST check out Astrid’s site!  SIGnature Creations by Astrid is her shop – tutus, shirts, hair bows, pacifier clips, and diaper cakes! Astrid is a new mom of triplets – how she finds the time to do such gorgeous work is beyond me, but I am so glad she does!

Salvador – In Concert

August 29, 2009

Will and I had the opportunity to go and see one of my favorite bands live at the California State Fair on Wednesday. Salvador is a Chrsitian Latin Rock band and my dad and I danced to one of their songs, “When I Pray”, for our father-daughter dance at my wedding in 2005. Salvador is the first and only Christian music CD that I have ever purchased. Their live show was out of this world. There is literally nothing better than awesome latin music under the stars on a late summer evening in Sacramento. Bonus, I got to take my first ever band photos! img_19391img_19331img_19271img_19181img_19171

Oh, and I also went shopping for my session this coming Sunday! I’m doing a smash-cake session for a 1 year old little girl. I got to shop for fun, girly stuff and ended up with some awesome hot pink background fabric. I came *this close* to recklessly buying this AMAZING pink and white leather kids chair. It was so, so fabulous….

….and so, so not cheap. Maybe next time. :)

Melissa – Model Shoot

August 18, 2009

Okay, how fabulous is Melissa? We headed out to my new favorite location which either requires a fairly out of the way walk (as the crow flies, its about 50 yards from my front door) or a quick fence jump. Even though she was in a dress, she was down to hop the fence! Don’t worry…completely legal. It’s just the fence separating my housing development from the bike trail. As soon as I started shooting, I knew we had something special. Melissa is drop dead gorgeous, tall, and thin…so really, anything she did looked beautiful. I’m hesitant to do super close up headshots of people, but the headshot that we got of Melissa is by far one of my favorite images. Her eyes knock your socks off! I played around with the style a bit, channeling my inner “Vouge”.

Oh, and anyone else notice the dress? Scroll down a few posts to Shelby’s senior portraits. Look familar? What a koinkidink!
