Let’s call him “P3″ – yes, the adorable little guy below! I met P3 and his parents through baby Summer’s mom. I made the trek to San Francisco for this shoot. I love a good adventure and I happened to luck out on this one- not only did I make the drive for a fabulous session, but also for an AMAZING day. If you’ve ever been to SF you know that 80 degree days are few and far between. I’ve lived in CA for 18+ years, have been to the city a few dozen times, and I have never seen a day like the one we had on Saturday.

I met P3 and his parents near the famous Lombard Street. We did a few there with the Coit Tower serving as our backdrop. We snuck a few in of Alcatraz, a few with the trolly, a few in the random allys (uhm, to die for GORGEOUS!), and then we were off to the BEACH! We almost got lost, but we made it. The temperature was a tad cooler on the exposed side of the coast, but we were still greeted by hundreds of other folks enjoying the perfect day.

P3 is quite possibly the calmest, most laid back, and most observant 1 year old that I have ever met. He did such a great job! Not a peep out of him the whole time…oh, wait…except for when he took a little face plant into the sand, but who can blame him?! Sand + mouth = yuck.

Thank you again to Mommy W & Daddy P for letting me shoot your adorable little family in such a world class setting. I had a blast!

Best light – dawn or dusk?

September 27, 2009

Even non-photographers know that the best time of day to shoot is either 1 hour after sunrise or 1 hour before sunset. Riiiiight? Well, I beg to differ. Don’t get me wrong, I love those times of day and they do provide a refuge from harsh afternoon sun. However, there is something to be said for a middle of the day shine. I have found, unexpectedly, that I really enjoy the light at the “bad” hours during the day. The key is to find shade or to make the harsh light work for you…not against you. It’s not the easiest, but I like a challenge. I find that middle of the day light is vibrant, pretty, and brings a special vibe into my photos. I work with a lot of babies and children who just don’t like to be awake at 7:30pm! We’ve made middle of the day shoots work for us, and in doing so, I have found a new appreciation for it.

Today was the most magnificent, gorgeous day in San Francisco. Sunny, 80 degree days don’t come often in “The City” and it’s hard for me to remember a time where I have been in SF without the cold and the fog. Don’t get me wrong, the cold and the fog are part of the charm, but today I feel in love with a sunny San Francisco. I was lucky enough to spend 3 1/2 hours shooting the cutest little family in one of the most amazing cities in the world. As I turned my car to the east and headed back to Sacramento I decided that I need to come back. Soon.

…to be continued.

Why I love the Fed/Ex Man

September 10, 2009

1- He delivers my photo goodies next day and at 2:00 on the dot, every day. I’m sorry, but the USPS will never be this reliable.
2- He is always dressed so sharp. Orange and purple are so much more fun than BROWN.
3- Today he delivered the most AMAZING print I have ever seen.

It is the first time that I have seen one of my own images in a print of this size and finish. It literally took my breath away. Yes, I’ll take that self delivered pat on the back!

I LOVE my print company. They do amazing work, and yes, you read point 1 correctly- all orders are delivered OVERNIGHT! I hate waiting, and I love that I don’t have to make my clients wait either.
