Melissa & Kris's Seattle Engagement Session | Golden Gardens

On the day of Melissa and Kris's engagement session Seattle was the warmest area in the country. Yes, you read that right. This is our first spring in Seattle and I have been warned that May and June are often chilly and grey, so to have a stretch of 10 days where it's sunny and warm is a real treat. I was even sporting a good sunburn from earlier in the day! I'm most at home shooting in warm sunlight and I am so thankful that we had that opportunity. When I scouted this location there weren't many people but by the time we arrived it was packed. PACKED packed. Santa Monica Pier in LA packed. Thankfully we all found parking and found little spots where we could be on our own. I definitely don't mind shooting with people in the background but I wanted a different feel for this session. I had never been to Golden Gardens before...lesson learned! Warm weather = busy. I will be photographing Melissa and Kris's wedding in January 2014 in Cle Elem - a wonderful (likely white) winter wedding! I think it's fun that their engagement and their wedding images will feel so different - one warm and sunny and one romantic and cold. We had so much fun and these two are wonderful in front of the camera - not afraid to laugh and play. What they did naturally without me asking is what I often times try to coax out of my clients. I know I've said it before but I'm a firm believer that people look most beautiful when they laugh.

Okay Seattle, stay this way for the next 5 months...please??

From Melissa: "Kris and I met at a Mariners' game two years ago when Kris was visiting Seattle to climb Mt. Rainier.  It was 80's night and his purple track suit caught my eye and once I got the courage to go talk to him we had an instant connection!  We have been together ever since that day and after a year and a half of long distance, Kris finally moved to Seattle in January.  He proposed on March 3rd 2013 while we were snowshoeing in the Cascades on a beautiful sunny day!"
